To transfer your car to a buyer on LTA's OneMotoring you need the vehicle number and the buyer's ID number and name, and you log in with your own Singpass. Before that, the car must have no outstanding matters such as a car loan or road tax arrears, and you should receive the money before you transfer. The buyer then confirms the transfer, which must happen within 7 days.
What details does LTA ask for?
LTA lists what the seller needs to start the transfer online: the vehicle registration number, the next owner's ID number (NRIC, FIN or company registration number) and name, and optionally their mobile number and email. You get an SMS once you have applied, and the buyer gets an SMS to log in and confirm (LTA OneMotoring, transfer of vehicle ownership, read 20 October 2026).
Does the car loan have to be paid off first?
Yes. LTA says the vehicle should not have any outstanding matters, such as financial loans or road tax arrears, and that vehicles being transferred should not be under financing. If you still owe the bank, the loan is settled as part of the sale before the transfer goes through. When you sell to us, we settle any outstanding loan with the bank as part of the deal.
Can you keep your car number?
Yes, if you retain it before the transfer. LTA says to retain the vehicle number first if you want to keep it; after the transfer it goes with the car.
What happens to road tax and rebates?
Road tax already paid and the car's rebates, such as any PARF or COE rebate it may enjoy, are transferred to the new owner with the car. Allow for that when you agree the price.
When should you hand over the car?
LTA advises sellers to transfer only after the money is received, especially when paying by cheque, and the buyer should accept the transfer before the car is handed over. Never let anyone use your Singpass to transfer the car on your behalf.
