In the first week, confirm the ownership transfer on LTA's OneMotoring (it must be done within 7 days), make sure motor insurance in your name covers the road tax period, and check the car's details match LTA's records. Then book a first service with a workshop you trust and decide how you will look after the paint and interior.

Is the ownership transfer done?
LTA says the ownership of a second-hand car must be transferred to the new owner within 7 days of it changing hands. The seller or dealer starts the transfer online, and it takes effect once you, the new owner, confirm it with Singpass 2FA. Afterwards, check that OneMotoring shows the car in your name (LTA OneMotoring, transfer of ownership, read 18 October 2026).
Are your insurance and road tax in order?
Before you confirm the transfer, the car must have valid motor insurance under your name, covering the full period of its valid road tax. Road tax already paid and any vehicle rebates move to you with the car, so note the road tax expiry date and whether an inspection is due before the next renewal.
Do the car's details match LTA's records?
LTA advises buyers to check that the make, model, engine number and chassis number tally with LTA records. Keep the sales agreement, the pre-purchase inspection report and the service records in one place: you will want them for the first service and again when you sell the car one day.
When should the first service be?
If the service records do not show a recent service, book one early, ideally with the workshop that did your pre-purchase inspection or one that knows the make. You start with fresh fluids and a clear picture of the car's condition.
How do you look after the paint and interior?
Expressway driving chips the bonnet and front bumper first. If you want to keep the paint as it is, one option is paint protection film at our sister shop Wrapstar Autostyle, in the same unit as our showroom. A thorough interior clean is also worth doing early, so the car feels like yours from day one.
